Thomas R. Fernandes

Thomas Richard Fernandes, age 80 of Hastings, passed away Friday evening, October 10, 2014 at Mary Lanning Health Services in Hastings.

Funeral services for Thomas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15th at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Paul Knott of the Berean Bible Church officiating. Inurnment will be in the Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Apfel Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory. Thomas was born June 6, 1934 in Fairhaven, MA. While serving in the U.S. Marine Corp he was stationed in Hastings. He married Joyce Graham on February 11, 1956 in Hastings where the couple continued to reside. Thomas was employed as a craft cutter for Mode O Day for over twenty years and was then employed by Cash Wa Candy Company until his retirement. Thomas attended the Berean Bible Church in Hastings.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Graham) Fernandes of Hastings; three daughters, Barbara and Kim Doehring of Wichita, KS, Brenda and Rob Cates of Hastings and Patti and Jeff Hamers of Denver, CO; one son, Thomas Jr and Shannon Fernandes of Buford, GA; one brother, Richard and Beverly Fernandes of New Bedford, MA; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and step father, John and Mary (Fernandes) Rodrigues.
