Thomas TJ York, Jr., 28 of Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly of Grand Island, died March 17, 2015 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

TJs journey will continue onto Grand Island, Nebraska as his final destination with services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. To pay your respects and celebrate TJs life with us, a visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015, from 4:00-7pm at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island.

TJ was born on February 22, 1987 in Mesa, Arizona. Although he was raised in Arizona, he went back to Grand Island, Nebraska to experience the family farm and where he graduated from Northwest High School in 2005. TJ described those years as the best two years of his life! We have lost an incredible son, brother and friend far too soon. Each of us has been immeasurably enriched by having TJ in our lives and may we never forget him. TJ will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know him.

A gentle soul and heart of gold passed away on March 17, 2015. TJ was only 28 years old, but was an old soul who seemed wise beyond his years, which is what allowed him to understand and love others from a deep, passionate place in his heart. He will always be remembered for his 65 frame, bigger than life smile, belly laughs, bear hugs, sparkling blue eyes, rosy red cheeks, and big heart. His most familiar nickname Polar Bear was not only representative of his size and looks, but his gentle and fun-loving personality. TJ was a beloved Son, Brother, Grandson, Uncle, Nephew, and Cousin, along with an incredible network of friends. He commanded a room when he entered it and brightened it with his big beautiful smile and calm, steady demeanor. His bigger than life personality, faith, thoughtfulness, and unending selfless dedication to always assist others when in need will be the building blocks to his legacy.

He is survived by his loving parents, Tom York and Carol Mettenbrink, sister, Shaunna Adinolfi (husband Adam and nephew Anaxander Ralph), grandmother, Arlene Mettenbrink, three uncles Gary (wife Kim) Mettenbrink, John (wife Patsy) Mettenbrink and Lynn Mettenbrink.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph Mettenbrink, Bud and Eileen York, and uncle, Gary York.
