Verla Wray Steiner

Inavale resident, Verla Wray Steiner, 85 passed away, October 5, 2018 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.



Services will be Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kenesaw with Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, October 8, 2018 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw is in care of the family. Memorials may be given to the Kearney County Museum or the National Multiple Sclerosis Association.



Verla was born June 16, 1933 to George W. and Anna (Torske) Johansen in Minden, NE. She attended Minden public schools, graduating in 1950. She attended the CE School of Commerce, Omaha, NE, graduating in 1951. She married Mervin E. Steiner on March 7, 1953 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings. Mervin passed away April 1998. Verla worked as a secretary for the Webster County Extension Office, retiring in 1998.



Verla enjoyed flowers, decorating her home for the holidays and coffee with friends. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Red Cloud, NE and the Red Cloud Woman’s Club.



She is survived by her two children, Cynthia Jacobitz (David) of Kenesaw, Todd Steiner (fiancée Rhonda Ehly) of Glenvil, grandchildren, Adam Jacobitz (Molly) of Hastings, Taylor Jacobitz (Brianna) of Kenesaw, Caleb Jacob (Paula) of Bertrand, Arial Steiner of Kenesaw, Heather Munson (Adam) of Lincoln, Vanessa Roberts (Tyler) of Loudon, TN, great grandchildren, Creighton, Berkley and Emmery Jacobitz, William, Colby, Chase and Cayleigh Jacob, Olivia Munson, Natalie, Mackinlee and Jackson Roberts and Blythe Jacobitz and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Johansen of Kansas City, MO.



She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Kendra Steiner, brothers, Edmund, Ralph, Arnold, Verdon and Lawrence Johansen, sisters, Freida Eighmy, Alice Kersting, Maye Gion, Lois Shiers, Nola Gleason and Viola Sinsel.
