Verna M. Anderson

Verna M. Anderson, 89, of Grand Island died Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, November 7th at the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.  The Rev. Kelly Karges will officiate.  Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, November 6th at Apfel Funeral Home.  Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Verna was born July 29, 1934, at Wood River, NE to Vern P. and Rose E. (Dahlke) Boltz.  She grew up and attended school in Wood River until the age of nine years when her family moved to Grand Island.  She completed her education in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1951.

Verna married Darrell Anderson, the love of her life, on June 15, 1952, at Trinity United Methodist Church.  They made their home in Grand Island.  Verna worked as a payroll clerk for Southern Public Power for 25 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Eagles, Saddle Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Verna enjoyed camping, reading and dancing.

She is survived by three daughters, Vicki Anderson of Lincoln, NE, Cindy (Scott) Lane of Grand Island and Janie Kelley of Central City, NE; one son, Rick Anderson of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Josh (Annie) Lane, Jared Lane, Jake (Hayley) Lane, Melissa Lamberson, Jeremy and Taylor Anderson, Amber and Jessica Kelley; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Anderson; and brother, Derald (Billie) Boltz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell Anderson; sister Gloria McCoun; granddaughter Jenna Mae; and son-in-law, Mike Kelley.
