Vesta Cook

Vesta E. Cook, 106, of Grand Island, NE died on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Grand Island, NE. Graveside services will be 2:30 PM on Monday, April 7, 2025 at the Akron Cemetery in Akron, NE. Visitation will be from 11 AM to Noon on Monday, April 7th at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, NE.

Mrs. Cook was born on October 26, 1918, at Cotesfield, NE, the daughter of Roy G. and Martha (Iverson) Wade. She received her education from the Grand Island Public School System. Shortly thereafter, she studied as a cosmetology apprentice with her sister, Karen.

She was united in marriage to Louie Cook on December 24, 1936, at Central City, NE after which they made their home at Albion and Alliance, NE. She owned and operated her own beauty shop while at Alliance. She continued as a cosmetologist after the couple moved to Ames, IA and helped her husband with the A&W Drive-In, there. In 1968, they moved to Grand Island where they remained. She remained employed in cosmetology until her retirement in 1987. Mr. Cook preceded her in death on June 16, 2003.

She was a member of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her son, Lanny Cook of Grand Island; daughter-in-law Chris Cook Turney of Illinois; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Alap Shah) and Owen Cook; great-grandchildren: Vikram and Gautham Shah-Cook.

Vesta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louie; son, Brian; four brothers and five sisters.
