Viola A. Karle, 96, of Grand Island was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 14 at Tiffany Square. She had lived in her own farm home until her recent illness. Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Viola Tagge Karle was born September 22, 1916 to Arthur and Anna (Steinke) Tagge in the rural Cairo area where she received her education. She married Earle H. Karle on January 14, 1951. They were blessed with two children and four grandchildren. Following Earles death on May 15, 1999, three great grandchildren added to the family. Viola is survived by a son and daughter in law Robert Bob and Deborah Deb Karle of Grand Island and a daughter and son in law, Patricia Pat and Gary Anderson of Kearney. Grand children include Matt (Bev) Anderson, Liz (Matt) Dibbern, Andrea (James) Sulhoff and Kate (Chris) Fuller and great grandchildren Wyatt and Bailey Anderson, Natalie Dibbern and baby Dibbern due in August. Viola is also survived by her sisters, Evelyn (Harlan) Knoepfel, Arlene (Vernon) Hadenfeldt, sister in law Betty Karle, brothers in law, LeRoy Werner and Al Karle and nieces and nephews. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Esther (Arnold) Daubendick, Ramona Werner and an infant brother and sister. Viola enjoyed being a farm wife who planted and tended a vegetable garden. She canned what they didnt eat fresh. She raised chickens and sold and delivered farm fresh eggs to Grand Island households. Completely at home in her kitchen, Viola prepared delicious home cooked meals and was always prepared to set an extra place for guests. She opened her home to her widowed mother and cared for her for many years. Violas hobbies included sewing, embroidery and ceramics. Her family members were the grateful recipients of many pieces of her handiwork. The dresses expertly sewn for Liz, Andrea and Kate were created with love and sewn with her personal artistic flair using ruffles, lace, collars and ribbons. Most recently, she enjoyed embroidering tea towels, and keeping her mind sharp with word puzzles and reading. Viola was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had previously been a member of the ladies groups and altar guild. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and Heartland Lutheran High School, or donors choice.
