Virginia Emery, 90 of Grand Island died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Dr. Charles Gregory officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or Boy Scouts of America. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Virginia Emery was born August 4, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Clarence and Victoria K. (Schmidt) Wall. She received her education in Kansas City, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Ross Emery, November 9, 1940 in Kansas City, Kansas. The family lived in Kirkwood, Missouri, McPherson, Kansas, Beatrice, Nebraska, and North Platte, Nebraska before moving to Grand Island in 1959. Mr. Emery was employed by the Boy Scouts of America and State Department of Social Services and Mrs. Emery worked at Jo-Ann Fabrics retiring in 1987. She was a member of American Baptist Church all her life. She has been a member of church circles and involved with many sewing projects. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Gilbert Emery of Grand Island, one daughter, Judy Hiebert of Gladstone, Missouri, sons and daughters in law, Dave & Janet Emery of Lincoln, Nebraska, Doug and Julie Emery of Grand Island, Nebraska, one brother Don Wall of Fridley, Minnesota and 2 sisters in law, Betty Wall of Riverside, Missouri and Colleen Wall of Evansville, Indiana, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, James Emery, two brothers, Dick Wall and Harold Wall and a granddaughter, Debbie Hiebert.
