Virginia M. Humiston, 86, of Grand Island died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday May 28, 2013 at Apfel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday May 27, 2013 at Apfel Funeral Home, in Grand Island. Virginia was born October 8, 1926, at Giltner, Nebraska to William and Viola (Vance) Jankovitz. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island. Virginia married Robert M. Humiston on July 21, 1946, at Grand Island. They then made their home and raised their family in Grand Island. Virginia worked in housekeeping department at Lutheran Memorial Hospital and later, Saint Francis Memorial Health Center, she then worked for Country General. She was a member of the United Travelers of America and the Eagles. Virginia was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and loved to crochet. She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends and spending time with her cat, Jasper. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Judy Humiston of Grand Island, and Charles and Edith Humiston of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Michael Rotolo of Las Vegas, Nevada and Delores Dee and Mike Garrett of Grand Island; and her brother, Louis Jankovitz of Grand Island. Additional survivors include eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and close friends, Judy and Howard Bunner of Grand Island. Mrs. Humiston was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1986; one son, Michael Humiston in 2004, two brothers and one sister. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Foundation.
