W. Dean Harlow

Hastings resident, W. Dean Harlow, 91, passed away, Friday, July 24, 2009 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Services will be Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE with the Rev. Gregory Volzke officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, York, NE with military rites. Visitation will be Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 12 noon to 9 PM and Monday, July 27, 2009 from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Dean was born September 5, 1917 to P. J. and Flora J. (Carlisle) Harlow in Bradshaw, NE. He attended country school and graduated from the Bradshaw High School in 1934. He married Laura Junge on November 22, 1942 in York, NE. They moved to Hastings and he was employed at the Navy Ammunition Depot, Timberlock and Western Plastics. He served in the US Navy Seabees from October 1943 to November 1945, serving in the South Pacific, returning to Hastings he was a postal letter carrier for 26 years retiring in 1982. Dean was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the National Association of Retired Federal Workers. He volunteered for the Hastings Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his wife Laura, of Hastings, NE, one daughter, Jeanne Palumbo and husband Chester of Defiance, MO, one son, David Harlow and wife Gin of Hastings, NE. three grandchildren, Geno Palumbo and wife Mary of Fenton, MO, Dena Hull and husband Rick of Ellisville, MO and Matthew Harlow of Lincoln, NE. five great grandchildren, Lexie Hartman, Kylie Hull, Katherine Hull, Ryan Palumbo and Jacob Palumbo. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one of which was his twin and one grandson, Nathan Harlow. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE. Dean requested no flowers.
