Warren H. Corbet, of Grand Island, 96, passed away March 27, 2017 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island following a very brief illness. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Caroline Price-Gibson officiating. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials have been suggested to First Presbyterian Church Organ Restoration Project or Kansas State University College of Engineering.
Warren Corbet was born October 20, 1920, at his farm home to Henry and Rosene (Laverentz) Corbet near Severance, Kansas. He grew up in Kansas and was a 1938 graduate of Highland High School and a 1943 graduate of Kansas State University. He began his professional engineering career with John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa. Warren moved to Grand Island, Nebraska, in 1948, where he resided for the remainder of his life. Warren married Alice Doll on April 11, 1952, in Atlantic, Iowa. They were inseparable until her death on April 12, 2002, the day after their 50th anniversary. He was employed as a hydrologic engineer for the Federal Bureau of Reclamation, retiring in 1980.
A life-long Presbyterian, Warren was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island for 69 years where he served as a deacon and elder. He was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers; Nebraska Society of Engineers; National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association; Masons, Eastern Star, Shriners, Liederkranz, Saddle Club, Grand Island Kennel Club and Grand Island Concert Association. His hobbies through the years included gardening, woodworking, bridge, golf, bowling, camping, bus tours and enjoying Big Band music.
Survivors include his daughter, Catherine Corbet, Lincoln; Granddaughter Sarah (Shane) Lavy, Lincoln; Great-grandchildren, Sienna and Raylan Lavy, Lincoln; Nieces and Nephews: Ula May Drake of Robinson, KS, Erma Lee Monhollon (John) of Cortland, NE; Linda (Nelson) Pratt of Meriden, KS; Paul (Mary) Simmons of Robinson, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Christi Corbet; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael Roberts; and Sister, Erma Simmons.
