Wayne R. Going

Wayne Roland Going, age 67, passed away at his home in Grand Island, NE, on September 19, 2017.





His funeral service will be

3:00 p.m. on Sunday October 15 at Peace Lutheran Church, 1710 N. North Road, Grand Island, NE.



Pastor Dan Cloeter of Osceola will officiate.





A private committal service at Westlawn Cemetery will take place the following morning.



Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Public Library Foundation.



Wayne was born on July 23, 1950, in Bemidji, MN, to Rev. Roland and Mrs. Lois Going and was baptized into the Christian faith by his father at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lake George, MN.





Wayne received his elementary education at St. Peter Lutheran School, Macomb, MI, and St. John Lutheran School, Chaska, MN, where he was also confirmed by his father.



He graduated from Lutheran High School, Mayer, MN, in 1968; from Concordia College, Seward, NE, in 1973 with Bachelor of Science Degree in Education; from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN, with a Master of Science Degree in Physical Education; and from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA, in 1984 with an Educational Doctorate in Physical Education.





Wayne served as a physical education teacher in Cedar Rapids, IA, Baltimore, MD, and New Haven and Hoagland, IN;



admissions counselor at Concordia College, Seward, NE; and most recently as Director of Intramural and Recreational Sports at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.



He relocated to Grand Island in 2002 where he resided until the time of his entry into eternal life with his Savior Jesus Christ.



He is survived by his son Ryan (Catherine) Going and granddaughter Veronica of Sunnyvale, CA; sisters Linda (Walt) Varnes of Nampa, ID, Carol (Mike) Robinson and Wendy (Dennis) McCarty of Grand Island, NE, and Sharon (Randy) Forst of Winona, MN; brothers Ron (Sue) Going of Billings, MT, and Glenn Going of Winona, MN; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents.
