Wendell W. Grothen

Hastings resident, Wendell W. Grothen, 78, of 5615 South Adams Central Ave. died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Services will be Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, south-west of Hastings, NE. Mr. Grothen was born December 1, 1927 to Elmer and Lena (Priebe) Grothen in Hastings, NE. He was raised in Adams County on a family farm and attended Kelly District 35 School. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1944. On February 9, 1947 he married Donna Laubon. He worked on the family farm. He was a life long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, south-west of Hastings, NE. He is survived by his wife, Donna, 2 sons, Dennis and Gale Grothen both of Hastings, NE, 7 grandchildren, Lanette Grothen, Hastings, NE, Kristina, Grothen, of Hohhot, China, Heather Greenwood, Fort Collins, CO, Sarah and Geoff Grothen, of Lincoln, NE, Heidi Burgett, San Jose, CA, Haley Vote, Dublin, CA, 3 Great Grandchildren, Lanay Grothen, Hastings, NE, Preston and Colby Greenwood of Fort Collins, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Carolyn Burgett, 1 grandson, Anthony Grothen, 1 brother, Orlo Grothen, Memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, south-west of Hastings, NE. A luncheon will be served at the Adams County Fairgrounds, north end following the service.
