William "Bill" Herman Leonhardt

Hastings resident, William Herman Leonhardt, 87, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.

Services will be Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 11 am at All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Soicety, Hastings-Village with Pastor Randy Madison officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the family to be distributed to his favorite ministries.

Bill was born April 1, 1927 to Jacob and Marie (Leonhardt) Leonhardt on a farm near Hansen, NE. He graduated from the Hastings High School in 1945. He served in the United States Air Force from December 3, 1948 to September 2, 1952 in Washington D.C. and Denver, CO. He married Lois Stein on May 31, 1952 she passed away April 26, 2011. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1983. Bill and Lois lived in Lincoln, NE and moved to Hastings in 2010.

Bills hobbies included airplanes, bluebirds, American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, and restoring Plymouth cars and antique tractors. He was a member of the Plymouth Owners Club. He enjoyed doing volunteer work for his church and also spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by three children, Keith Leonhardt of Hastings, NE, Rodney Leonhardt of Boulder, CO and Diane Forsman and husband Scott of Aurora, NE and two grandchildren, Janelle Foresman of Grand Island, NE and Michael Forsman of Aurora, NE, two sisters, Helen Dake of Lincoln, NE and Ruth Barfknecht and husband Bob of Hastings, NE and many nieces and nephews,

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, two sisters, Frieda (Harold) Austin and Edna (Bob) Smith, three brothers, Jacob (Melva) Leonhardt, Henry (Ada) Leonhardt and John (Frieda) Leonhardt and one brother-in-law, Paul Dake.
