Wilma R. Langenheder

January 4, 1921 — September 18, 2013

Wilma R. Langenheder, 92 of Grand Island, left the bonds of this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island with the Rev. Jack Gillam officiating. A celebration of Wilmas life will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Riverside Lodge, Grand Island. Inurnment of the ashes will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran High School: Langenheder Fund or the Salvation Army. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Wilma R. Langenheder was born January 4, 1921 in Grand Island, Nebraska the daughter of John & Emma (Vortmann) Langenheder. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High. After graduation she attended Beauty School. In 1944 she moved to San Diego, California and resided there until 1984 when she moved back to Grand Island to care for her mother after her father passed away. She was a long time benefactor of Heartland Lutheran High School and the Salvation Army, where she spent many hours volunteering. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Grand Island Saddle Club. Her hobbies included Needlepoint, where she was honored for her Award Winning Needle point Chair Cushion which is on display at the Governors Mansion, antique restoration and collecting clowns. She loved to square dance, travel and was an excellent cook. She wondered how long it took to die of boredom. Those left to cherish her memory include a nephew & his wife, Ron & Marilyn Langenheder, great-nieces, Stacia great-great niece & great-great nephew, Addison & Blaine, all of Ellis County, Texas; Goddaughter, Jill (Asmann) Lawrence and Jills sister, Vickie (Asmann) Bishop, both of San Diego, California; along with numerous cousins and a host of friends. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, John & Emma Langenheder; brother, Walter Langenheder; and the Love of Her Life, Vic Asmann.
