Wilmer Willy F. Bieber, 85 of Grand Island, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Reverend Sheri Lodel officiating. Interment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Lutheran Church. Wilmer was born on March 9, 1927 in Java, South Dakota to John and Celia (Miller) Bieber. He received his education in Java, South Dakota. He entered the U.S. Navy on March 6, 1945 and was honorably discharged on January 6, 1953. Wilmer was united in marriage to Doris Oster on July 11, 1948 in Bowdle, South Dakota. They farmed in South Dakota and were also custom harvesters. They moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1966 where Wilmer was employed by New Holland Industries. He was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church, VFW and the American Legion Club. He truly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting his many friends at the Grand Island Veterans Home. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in South Dakota, skeet shooting, gardening, and the outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Doris Bieber of Grand Island; daughter & son in law, Carmen & Dan Fox of Grand Island; daughter in law, Christine Bieber of Grand Island; brother and sister in law, Otto & Fern Bieber of South Dakota. Those also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren; Tia, Zac and his wife, Flo, Josh, and Savanna, and great-grandchildren; Macy, Ivan, Ethan, Kye, Sven, Kaleb, Siara, Kal, Jaxon, Mila, and Lucy. Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Bieber; grandson, Trinity; granddaughter, Sara; sisters, Viola and Vivian; and brother, Edwin.
